This special amino acid can be used for the introduction of side-chain bromoacetyl groups into any position of a peptide sequence during SPPS. The bromoacetyl can react with a cysteine thiol group in the sequence to conformationally restrain the peptide. The same principle can be used for linking peptides to proteins.
