Tyrosine methyl ester has been converted into α-fluoromethyl-tyrosine and used in a synthetic approach towards an N-alkylated 2-epi-valienamine via palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction. Furthermore, this compound quenched the fluorescence of tirapazamine.
