α-Difluoromethylornithine is a suicide inhibitor of ornithine decarboxylase. Initially developed for cancer treatment, eflornithine was found to be very efficient against trypanosomiasis. The ornithine derivative also found use in cosmetics, eflornithine-containing creams allow to reduce excessive hair growth (hirsutism).
